This may not seem like a long time for a university, but let us remember that we also draw today on the legacy of our predecessor, the Higher School of Pedagogy, which took root in Opole in 1954. It was on the solid foundations of one of the best teacher training colleges in the country at the time, as well as a branch of the Catholic University of Lublin, that the University in Opole was able to be established. We carry within us a sense of pride and satisfaction in our own achievements and those of our predecessors, but at the same time, we are aware of the need for constant work toward further development. We are proud to carry out the university\u2019s mission, with its medieval origins and centuries-old European tradition, and to offer a full range of academic disciplines here in tribute to the intellect, vocation, and potential of the human spirit. The University of Opole is an institution that cherishes the tradition and legacy of its predecessors, as enshrined in its mission, yet it is also an institution that evolves, responds effectively to external changes, and addresses both local conditions and global challenges. Its primary goals remain relevant today:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The University as a link in a national and international network of development and the dissemination of knowledge, culture, and public debate.<\/li>\n<li>The University as a community of faculty, students, and doctoral candidates, guided by a sense of service to society, the principles of academic freedom and teaching, as well as artistic freedom, and the freedom to initiate and conduct scientific research beneficial to the development of the surrounding community.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>However, it is not enough to focus solely on nurturing the universal values of the academic ethos\u2014such as dignity, academic freedom, justice, and tolerance\u2014even if we were to regard them as the most important duty of the academic community, the community of scholars and learners. Today, we need new ideas to make it better and better prepared for the challenges of the modern world. The University of Opole deserves success.
